Objective

This fifth step aims at developing protocols for data and information sharing starting with a careful analysis of existing best practices.
The aims are:

  • to reduce duplication
  • to make the best use of the information sourced through audits
  • to improve transparency
  • to support improvements in remediation (Step six).
This step does not aim at developing another database but rather at enabling existing data sharing platforms to communicate, hence reducing duplication and improving transparency. This will allow for best use of the information sourced through steps 1 to 4 of the GSCP working plan, and to support improvements in remediation through data mining.

The Expert Working Group was launched in July 2010, and is constituted of the following members:

  • Hazel Culley, Social Compliance Manager- Foods, MARKS & SPENCER
  • Anwar Khan, Sr. Manager, Ethical Standards, WAL-MART
  • Kiku Loomis, Director of Operations and Compliance for Licensees, PHILLIPS-VAN HEUSEN

Development Process

Drafting

The aim of the Expert Working Group’s work is to understand the current landscape and existing data sharing models. This includes what data are shared, how they are shared, to what extent and for what purpose, and who owns them. The objective of their work is also to understand the barriers to data exchange and look at how to overcome these. The Group will start work on this mid-August 2010.
